ESG Journey

Basics

Description

ESG Journey playbook forms the foundation for managing sustainability data and ensuring regulatory readiness across an organization. It enables the systematic collection of ESG data from suppliers through portals, forms, APIs, or manual inputs, supporting formats such as PDFs and Excel. This playbook guide organizations in assessing their readiness for CSRD compliance by mapping current data coverage against requirements and identifying gaps at the level of entities, suppliers, and data categories. Double materiality assessments are supported by coordinating stakeholder inputs, aggregating scores, and maintaining a full audit trail for transparency and accountability.

Beyond assessment, the playbook operationalizes ESG processes and evidence management. It facilitates EU Taxonomy alignment by classifying activities and calculating eligibility and alignment ratios. Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions data is collected, normalized, and forwarded to calculation engines for accurate reporting. ESG evidence management ensures documents can be attached to specific data points with versioning and audit trails maintained for compliance. Additionally, regulatory change impact scans detect new ESG requirements and map their effect on existing data models and suppliers, allowing organizations to adapt proactively to evolving regulations.

ProcessFlows

1. Supplier On-Boarding

Partner Management

This process focuses on bringing new suppliers into the ecosystem with ESG requirements integrated from the start. Inputs include supplier registration information, ESG questionnaires, and access credentials. The outputs are validated supplier profiles with assigned ESG obligations, ensuring they have proper access and ownership of their data. The business logic verifies that suppliers meet minimum ESG standards, confirms their ability to submit required data, and establishes the foundation for ongoing monitoring and engagement.

Process Steps

2. Supplier ESG Data Collection

Data Pipeline

This process involves gathering ESG-related information from suppliers using multiple channels, including web portals, structured forms, APIs, and manual submissions. Input data can come in the form of PDFs, Excel spreadsheets, or direct digital inputs. The output is a standardized dataset aligned to the internal ESG schema, ready for analysis and reporting. The business logic ensures completeness and accuracy by validating that all required fields are filled, formats are correct, and supplier identity and data ownership are confirmed before integration into the platform.

Process Steps

3. CSRD Readiness Assessment

Governance

This subprocess evaluates the organization’s current ESG data landscape against the requirements of the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD). Inputs include existing ESG datasets from internal systems and supplier submissions. The output is a gap analysis report that identifies missing data or areas where coverage is insufficient, segmented by entity, supplier, and data category. The business logic involves mapping each data point to CSRD criteria, highlighting areas of non-compliance, and providing actionable insights for closing the gaps.

WebApps

Data Collection

The Data Collection Webapp enables organizations to gather structured data from internal teams, suppliers, and external partners through multiple channels, including file uploads, forms, and surveys. It provides a user-friendly interface for submitting information, ensures that data is collected in a standardized format, and supports a variety of data types, including ESG metrics, operational KPIs, and compliance documentation.
The webapp also includes validation rules, automated reminders, and progress tracking to ensure completeness and accuracy. Collected data is automatically mapped to Tealfabric IO’s data models and integrated into the platform’s workflows, enabling seamless analysis, reporting, and decision-making across business units and external partners.

WebApp

Partner Registration

The Partner Registration Webapp allows suppliers, service providers, and other external partners to securely register and provide their organizational and ESG-related information directly into the Tealfabric IO platform. It streamlines the onboarding process by guiding partners through structured forms, document uploads, and self-service verification, ensuring that all required data is collected in a standardized and compliant manner.
The webapp also validates entries in real time, maps incoming data to Tealfabric IO’s data models, and provides visibility to internal teams for review and approval. By automating partner onboarding, the app reduces manual effort, accelerates supplier engagement, and ensures that partner data is complete, accurate, and ready for use in reporting, compliance, and operational workflows.

WebApp

Callbacks

Callback Webapp for Asynchronous ESG API Calls

The Callback Webapp manages asynchronous remote API interactions for ESG data, allowing external systems or partners to push or receive data without requiring immediate processing. It handles incoming callback requests, verifies their authenticity, and queues them for processing within Tealfabric IO workflows.
This webapp ensures reliable, scalable, and traceable integration with external ESG data providers, supporting delayed responses, large data volumes, and error handling. By orchestrating asynchronous data exchange, it enables seamless updates to ESG datasets, automated validation, and timely synchronization with the Master Data (Gold) Database and other Tealfabric IO processes.

Datapools

ESG Data Pipeline Cache

The ESG Data Pipeline Cache Database temporarily stores incoming ESG data from internal systems, suppliers, and external sources before it is validated, transformed, and loaded into the Master Data (Gold) Database. It acts as a staging area that supports high-volume, real-time, or batch data ingestion while ensuring that raw inputs are preserved and traceable.
The cache database enables automated data quality checks, transformation, and enrichment without impacting source systems or the gold data layer. It improves processing efficiency, allows error handling and retries, and ensures that only validated, standardized data flows into the authoritative ESG repository for reporting and analytics.

ESG_Metadata

The ESG Metadata Datapool is a centralized repository that stores structured information about all ESG-related data sources, indicators, and reporting elements within the organization. It captures metadata such as data origin, frequency, unit of measure, reporting entity, supplier linkage, and applicable regulatory standards (e.g., CSRD/ESRS), enabling consistent understanding and use of ESG data across teams and systems.
By organizing ESG data at the metadata level, the Datapool supports data discovery, governance, and lineage tracking, ensures compliance with reporting requirements, and enables automated mapping, validation, and aggregation in Tealfabric IO workflows. It acts as a single source of truth for ESG definitions, facilitating reliable reporting, analytics, and decision-making.

Master-data DB (gold)

The Master Data (Gold) Database is the authoritative repository for validated, harmonized, and fully reconciled ESG data across the organization. It consolidates data from internal systems, supplier submissions, and external sources, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and completeness at the entity, supplier, and business unit levels.
This “golden record” database serves as the single source of truth for ESG reporting, analytics, and compliance, enabling Tealfabric IO to deliver reliable insights, automated CSRD reporting, and robust decision-making. It supports traceability, versioning, and lineage tracking, so every data point can be audited and traced back to its origin.
